8 02 2011

For those of you who do not know, the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, or IBJJF for short, is the premier organization of the Brazilian jiu-jitsu world. They have been the organizers of the biggest tournaments in the world including the Pan American Championships (Pan Ams) and the Mudials or World Championships. They run some of if not the best tournaments in the world.

The IBJJF started off the 2011 tournament season with the European Open in Lisbon, Portugal a little over a week ago. The tournament was a major success with athletes from all over Europe and the world there in attendance. Names such as  Braulio Estima, Claudo Calasans, and Michael Langhi were there in full force all winning their respective divisions with Sergio Moraes taking the Open Class crown. As for the top teams, no surprise that power house Alliance takes the top slot. For overall results, please click here.

As for the tournaments that take place stateside, the IBJJF is kicking off the U.S. tournaments this coming weekend (February 12th & 13th) with the Houston Open. The tournament is sure to be a big hit with many traveling from around the country to step onto the mat. Some notable names on the roster to be in attendance include Ryan Hall, Justin Rader, Steven Hall, and Bruno Bastos among others. The full tournament schedule and roster can be viewed by clicking here.

Live the BJJ Lifestyle.com will be there to capture most of the action as well as to support our friends and competitors. I myself will be there competing as well. Just look for the patch representing! It will be a great kickoff to what is sure to be a heated and great tournament season! The Houston Open is just the first in many stateside tournaments to come.  To view a full list of the tournament season and dates, simply click here. Don’t forget about the Chicago Open and the Dallas Open, two more great IBJJF tourneys as warmups for the Pans and Mundials respectively.. 🙂 looking forward to a great season!

I will be at the Dallas Open, as well as the NYC Open. Also the Pans and the Mudials but I will not make it out to Chicago. Once a month is good for me! 🙂 See you there.
